Evangelism 2022

There was one Bible verse that encapsulated 2022 for the Gadara Evangelism Team. We hit the ground running but soon ran into a myriad of personal- professional and spiritual difficulties. Having to regularly approach strangers to share the Gospel while the threat of a global pandemic hung over our heads did not make things easier. For half of 2022, South Africans still had to wear masks and adhere to Covid restrictions. To say the year was challenging is an understatement. We all felt that we could relate to Apostle Paul when he wrote in 2 Corinthians 4: 8-10:

We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body.

However, the team pressed on and never wavered from the conviction that our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ is the solution to all the world’s problems. We steadfastly committed to coming out on Saturday mornings and spreading the Gospel.

Towards the middle of the year, we put our thinking caps on and thought of ways to be innovative and expand our outreach. We made a collective decision that we will go out every Saturday morning. In previous years we used to cancel a Saturday morning outreach if rain was forecasted but in 2022, we decided that we will go out every Saturday morning, irrespective of the weather. Towards the end of the year, we launched our whole day outreaches. Once a month, we meet at 9 am on Strand Beach road where we all climb into Carel’s trusty Toyota Venture and hit the streets of Cape Town. On these days we typically go to two or three towns and only return home around 17h00pm. We have been from Kuils River to Mitchell’s Plain and even as far as Simonstown. The team’s dedication and innovation paid off. We reached over a thousand people all over the Cape Peninsula with the Gospel.

Here are the statistics for 2022

We are going into 2023 with Isaiah 40:31 as our banner!

But those who trust in the LORD will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.
